We went to Dauphin Island for a quick trip to be sure that we, the truck, and the trailer were all ready for our epic journey. All went well, except on the way home the truck's check-engine light blinked when we went up a few of the long, steep hills between Birmingham and Huntsville. A quick trip to the shop corrected that problem and we are ready to go. Our punch list in preparation for leaving already had a line item for a truck checkout, so that worked out fine.
The campground at DI is very nice and well located within easy walking distance of the beach, the Audubon Bird Sanctuary (ABS), Fort Gaines, Sea Lab, and the Estuarium. It's also an easy drive to Bellingrath Gardens, some new friends, and some mighty fine restaurants and seafood markets. The only downside was we had the smallest site in the entire campground. Lucky our trailer is petite.
Our friends Larry and Brigitte (We met Larry and Brigitte last year at a camping rally in Decatur, AL.) invited us to their lovely home on Mobile Bay. We had wine, hors d'oeuvres and some fine conversation before going to Baudean's, a great restaurant just down the way from their house. Wonderful Royal Reds!! Then we went back to their house and relaxed on their pier until it was time to head back to the campsite.

On the way home, we picked up our grandson Arlo and got to spend four days with him at our house. He had fun at EarlyWorks and the playground, but you can tell how excited he was at our house. In defense, that picture was made after a long day of fun in the sun.

So far, so good! I like that you say you "got" to spend time with Arlo at your house instead of "had" to do it. I know he enjoyed his time there and will miss you guys!
